The Santa Cruz Hub For Sustainable Transportation

SC County’s Resource Center for Cycling and Sustainable Transportation

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Hub currently includes:

  • The Bike Church, a community bike shop and tool cooperative. We teach people to fix their own bikes, and save tons of used parts and bikes from the landfill.
  • The Hub Advocacy Fund: Working closely with People Power, the Hub sponsors a variety of education projects focused on encouraging bicycles for everyday use and educating the public on a vision for a human scale Santa Cruz County.
  • Friends of the Rail and Trail: Informs and educates the public about the potential for a rail and trail system along the coastal Union Pacific rail right of way.
  • Green Ways to school: works within our schools to educate students about sustainable transportation, climate change, peak oil, and other topics, encouraging them to consider alternatives to car driving.

As a broader community center, the Hub also houses some independent projects as renters:

  • People Power, the local advocacy group for better cycling infrastructure, as well as better planning and spending choices on transportation throughout the county.
  • Pedaler’s Express, a human-powered courier service, delivering heavy loads as well as urgent papers throughout the county by bicycle.
