Part time Bicycle Mechanic/Staff Member.

The Bike Church is a community bicycle repair shop and educational space in downtown Santa Cruz that is collectively run and non hierarchical. We are seeking a highly motivated staff member to share responsibility in running the shop.

You must be self-motivated and responsible, understand the importance of communication, follow through, and shared decision making as well as the ability to step back to let others step forward. It is very helpful if you have some familiarity with our space and collectively-run groups. Please have some experience with bike repair and the bike industry. We are seeking an experienced bike mechanic, but can train the right person who has commensurate skills in a related field.

Queer, trans, women, POC, retired, and differently-abled applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. Bilingual/multilingual is a plus, especially Spanish.

As part of a DIY tool cooperative you will be working side-by-side with other mechanics at jobs that include but are not limited to assisting the public in working on their bikes, processing incoming donations of used bikes and parts, fixing bikes to sell, office work, internet sales, cleaning, inventory, facilities maintenance, ordering, bookkeeping, scheduling, as well as one-off projects which vary and planning for the shop's long term growth.

An important value of the Bike Church is to be a safe space for all individuals from our community no matter their race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, income, or ability. Applicants must be able to foster respect and create a safe, fun space for our community and enjoy helping people. In addition, the Bike Church is at times a very vibrant, busy space, and staff members must have strong communication skills.

Duties: Work 1-2 shifts with the public per week (shifts are 5.5 or 6.5 hours long) and attend periodic meetings as well as tasks mentioned above. $15 per hour

Vacation (unpaid) will be scheduled in coordination with other staff members. Minimum one year commitment with a performance review after 3-6 months.
